Despite the category name, everything here is a pad or cloth rather than a sanding disc, used for buffing, cleaning, and applying finish rather than removing material. The range splits by machine size, 407mm pads for a full-size buffer and 280mm Superpads for a Bona Mini Buffer, and by job: buffing and cleaning, fine sanding prep, or oil application. Call 020 8830 9785 if you're not sure which pad matches your machine or the stage of the job you're at.

Matching a Bona pad to the task

Pad Machine size Used for
Buffing Cleaning Pads (green) 407mm General buffing and cleaning
Scrad Pad, 320G 407mm Extremely fine sanding, prepping before a new coat
Oiling Pads (brown) 407mm Working oil into the floor
Wool Buffing & Oiling Pads 407mm Oil application, softer wool construction
Superpad 280mm General buffing on a Bona Mini Buffer
Oiling Cloth Wraps around 16-17" pad Applying the first coat of oil or hardwax oil, or Refresher on lacquered floors

The Scrad Pad stands apart from the others: rather than a general buffing or oiling pad, it's built specifically for very fine sanding, the kind of light scuff-and-key step done between coats or before applying a fresh finish, and it's compatible with Bona FlexiSand and Bona's buffer range. If your job calls for roughing up a surface slightly rather than polishing or oiling it, this is the pad for that step, not the general buffing pads.

407mm vs 280mm

Most of the range is sized for 407mm buffers, the standard full-size machine. The 280mm Superpads are specifically for smaller machines like the Bona Mini Buffer, so checking your buffer's size before ordering avoids an easy mismatch, particularly since several 407mm and 280mm pads look broadly similar in the product photos.

The oiling cloth's specific role

The Bona Oiling Cloth isn't used on its own, it wraps around a 16- or 17-inch buffing pad and is used for the first coat of oil or hardwax oil specifically, where its cotton construction helps the oil penetrate more evenly. It's also suited to applying Bona Refresher on lacquered floors. Rinsing it in warm water and wringing it thoroughly before first use is worth doing, as the product notes it becomes more absorbent once prepared this way.

FAQ

Why don't I see any actual sanding discs on this page? Bona's disc range for edging and drum sanding sits under other brands in our abrasives selection, this Bona-specific page covers their pads and cloths for buffing, prepping and oil application instead.

What's the difference between the Scrad Pad and a normal buffing pad? The Scrad Pad is built for extremely fine sanding, essentially prepping a surface before a new coat, while standard buffing pads are for general cleaning and polishing rather than any material removal.

Do I need the Oiling Cloth if I already have Oiling Pads? They serve slightly different purposes, the cloth wraps around a pad specifically for the first coat of oil or hardwax oil, helping penetration, while the Oiling Pads themselves are used more broadly for oil application and buffing.

How do I know if my buffer takes 407mm or 280mm pads? Check your machine's specification or the pad size stated for your buffer model, a Bona Mini Buffer takes 280mm Superpads specifically, while most standard buffers use the 407mm range.
